Good to know

What will we see and do on this tour?

This is a guided walking tour through Medellín historic downtown, a different side of the city from the modern neighborhoods most visitors see. You will explore Botero Park, home to Fernando Botero world-famous bronze sculptures, and the Philatelic Museum, with stamps, photos, and artifacts that tell the story of Colombia and Medellín over the decades. Along the way you will stop for a traditional Colombian tasting, walk the lively Carabobo pedestrian avenue with its street performers and historic buildings, and visit the beautiful National Palace, a former government building that is now a vibrant cultural and shopping center. We finish with free time to browse for local crafts, coffee, and other Colombian treasures. Your local guide brings the history, art, and everyday culture of downtown to life throughout.

What is included?

Your professional local guide and the guided visits to each stop, including Botero Park, the Philatelic Museum, Carabobo avenue, and the National Palace. You will also enjoy a traditional Colombian tasting along the way. Personal purchases, like souvenirs, coffee, or items from the shops during your free time, are not included.

What should I wear and bring?

This is a relaxed daytime walking tour, so comfortable shoes are the most important thing. We recommend bringing sun protection, a bottle of water, and a little cash if you would like to buy a coffee, a snack, or souvenirs during the free time at the end. Dress comfortably for the weather; Medellín spring-like climate is pleasant most of the year.

Is Medellín safe?

It is one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is that Medellín today is far safer than the reputation from old movies and TV shows. The city has transformed: its homicide rate has dropped more than 90% since the early 1990s and in 2024 reached its lowest level since 1942, around 11 per 100,000 residents, which is lower than several major US cities. The areas where our tours run, like El Poblado and Provenza, are lively and well-policed, with locals and visitors out every night. As in any big city the main thing to watch is petty theft like phones and wallets, and the easiest way to not worry about any of it is exactly what you are booking: you will be with a local guide who knows the city, keeps the group together, and handles everything so you can just enjoy the experience. Guests, including solo and solo-female travelers, regularly tell us they felt comfortable the whole time.

Can I come solo?

Absolutely. Solo travelers are a big part of our groups, and this is one of the best ways to meet other travelers and locals in a safe, social setting. You won't feel out of place.

Do you host bachelor parties or private group events?

Yes! Private and celebration groups (bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, friend trips, team outings) are some of our favorite nights, and we can tailor the experience to your group. See our Groups & Private Events page or message us on WhatsApp.
