Discover the fascinating history, art, and culture of Medellín on this guided walking tour through the city's vibrant historic center. Far beyond the modern neighborhoods that many visitors know, downtown Medellín offers a rich story of transformation, iconic public art, beautiful architecture, and everyday Colombian life. We'll begin our journey in Botero Park, home to Fernando Botero's world-famous bronze sculptures. As we stroll among these remarkable works, you'll learn about Colombia's most celebrated artist, the stories behind his unique style, and the important role this plaza plays in Medellín today. Next, we'll visit the Philatelic Museum, where stamps, photographs, documents, and historical artifacts provide a fascinating glimpse into Colombia's past and the development of Medellín through the decades. Along the way, we'll stop for a traditional Colombian light tasting, giving you the opportunity to sample a local favorite while taking a break to chat and ask questions about Colombian culture, history, and daily life. Our walk continues down the lively Carabobo pedestrian avenue, one of downtown's most iconic streets. Here you'll experience the energy of local commerce, street performers, historic buildings, and the authentic atmosphere that makes Medellín unique. We'll then explore the beautiful National Palace, one of the city's architectural landmarks. Once a government building, it has been transformed into a vibrant cultural and commercial center filled with art, local businesses, and impressive historic architecture. We'll finish with free time to browse the Palace's many shops and nearby boutiques, where you'll find locally made crafts, souvenirs, fashion, skincare products, coffee, gifts, and other unique Colombian treasures. Whether you're visiting Medellín for the first time or looking to experience a different side of the city, this tour offers the perfect blend of history, art, culture, local flavors, and shopping—all led by a knowledgeable local guide who brings downtown Medellín to life.

What is included?

Your professional local guide and the guided visits to each stop, including Botero Park, the Philatelic Museum, Carabobo avenue, and the National Palace. You will also enjoy a traditional Colombian tasting along the way. Personal purchases, like souvenirs, coffee, or items from the shops during your free time, are not included.

What should I wear and bring?

This is a relaxed daytime walking tour, so comfortable shoes are the most important thing. We recommend bringing sun protection, a bottle of water, and a little cash if you would like to buy a coffee, a snack, or souvenirs during the free time at the end. Dress comfortably for the weather; Medellín spring-like climate is pleasant most of the year.

Is Medellín safe?

It is one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is that Medellín today is far safer than the reputation from old movies and TV shows. The city has transformed: its homicide rate has dropped more than 90% since the early 1990s and in 2024 reached its lowest level since 1942, around 11 per 100,000 residents, which is lower than several major US cities. The areas where our tours run, like El Poblado and Provenza, are lively and well-policed, with locals and visitors out every night. As in any big city the main thing to watch is petty theft like phones and wallets, and the easiest way to not worry about any of it is exactly what you are booking: you will be with a local guide who knows the city, keeps the group together, and handles everything so you can just enjoy the experience. Guests, including solo and solo-female travelers, regularly tell us they felt comfortable the whole time.

Can I come solo?

Absolutely. Solo travelers are a big part of our groups, and this is one of the best ways to meet other travelers and locals in a safe, social setting. You won't feel out of place.

Do you host bachelor parties or private group events?

Yes! Private and celebration groups (bachelor and bachelorette parties, birthdays, friend trips, team outings) are some of our favorite nights, and we can tailor the experience to your group. See our Groups & Private Events page or message us on WhatsApp.

How do I book?

The best price and easiest experience is to book directly with us on our website: you get live availability, secure card payment, and instant confirmation. You can browse all our tours and book here. We are also listed with our trusted partners, Airbnb Experiences and GetYourGuide, and you will see those options for each tour when you go to book. Cancel at least 24 hours before the tour starts and you get a full refund. Inside the final 24 hours, bookings are non-refundable. If you booked directly on our website, the refund goes back to your card automatically. If you booked through Airbnb or GetYourGuide, cancel there and their process applies (same 24-hour policy).

Yes. Our guides speak English and Spanish, so international guests and locals both feel right at home.
